Fightful Select's sources have indicated that they have not been informed of the context of Nakamura's current direction, which sees him cutting solo, down-the-lens promos addressing an unknown target every week.

'The King of Strong Style' said, on this week's Raw:

“How long? How long do I need to wait? I’m ready to fight. Where are you? I know where are you.”

Understandably, given the current state of wrestling discourse, speculation has pointed towards CM Punk as Nakamura's target. Current reporting suggests that this isn't the case. Although Fightful's report doesn't tie the two situations together at all, WWE's stance on Punk is understood to have remained the same in the lead-up to Survivor Series 2023. The promotion isn't bringing Punk back - yet - and does not want to create the expectation that the controversial star will be there.

Recent months have seen WWE attempt to elevate Nakamura back to a main-event level, primarily through his World Heavyweight Championship program with Seth Rollins. Rollins won both of their singles encounters, besting the former NJPW star at Fastlane and Payback.
