Going into WrestleMania 36, many wrestling fans predicted that Shayna Baszler would dethrone Becky Lynch to become the new Raw Women’s Champion. Of course, things didn’t play out like that.

Instead, The Man countered Baszler’s Kirifuda Clutch submission into a pinning combination that grabbed Lynch the 1-2-3 victory. Since then, we’ve seen Becky hand the Raw Women’s Championship over to Asuka, with Lynch stepping away from the squared circle to become a mother. As for Baszler, she’s barely been seen on WWE TV since ‘Mania.

In a new interview on The Bellas Podcast - as first picked up on by Pro Wrestling Sheet - Becky has revealed how she actually pitched to drop the title to Baszler at WrestleMania.

Straight from The Man, “[Becoming pregnant] happened before I would’ve expected, and I was still the champ at the time. I actually thought that I was going to lose the title at WrestleMania, which I also pitched. But, you know, plans change.”

Continuing on, Lynch added, “Money in the Bank was happening at the same time, so it was too confusing to merge the two. So they just decided they would do the Money in the Bank ladder match and do that as the title match, essentially, without them knowing.”

The Money in the Bank ladder match in question was won by Asuka, with the following night seeing Lynch reveal that the Raw Women’s Championship was in the MITB briefcase – rather than merely a contract for a shot at that title.

Asuka has been phenomenal over these past few months, and the majority of fans are clamouring for a long title reign for The Empress of Tomorrow. And hopefully, as part of that title reign, we get to see a lengthy rivalry between Asuka and the out-in-the-cold Shayna Baszler.
