The Japanese star signed his latest contract extension with the promotion back in 2019. There's currently no word on how long, exactly, Nakamura is bound to the company for, though his re-up would have come at a time when WWE was in full-on hoarding mode, with long-term deals regularly handed out.

SmackDown's 'King' is currently in the midst of one of his strongest main roster runs in WWE. The 41-year-old defeated Apollo Crews to become Intercontinental Champion on 13 August and while he is yet to defend the belt, he is routinely presented as one of SD's brightest upper-midcard stars, with guitar-shredding sidekick Rick Boogs freshening up his presentation in recent months.

Boogs made his in-ring debut on last week's SmackDown, teaming with Nakamura to defeat Crews and Commander Azeez.

Nakamura has been with WWE since jumping from NJPW in 2016. A profitable developmental run yielded two NXT Championship reigns for Shinsuke, who transitioned to the main roster in 2017, winning the following year's Royal Rumble.
