Dean Ambrose could be in danger of missing WrestleMania through injury.

The 32-year-old reportedly hurt his arm prior to Monday's episode of Raw, where he was attacked backstage by Samoa Joe with the aim of writing him out of the next few weeks of programming.

In an update posted on WWE.com today, it was confirmed that Ambrose has suffered a suspected "high-grade triceps tendon injury", which could require surgical repair.

He will undergo further examination today under the care of orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Dugas.

An additional update, including a possible time-frame for his recovery, is expected to be released later this week.

If the early prognosis is correct, the injury could come as a major blow to WWE's plans for next year's WrestleMania 34 on April 8.

Ambrose was expected to play a key role in the New Orleans showpiece following the re-establishment of The Shield two months ago.

The company was famously hit by a slew of injuries to major stars on the eve of WrestleMania 32 two years ago, which reportedly led to match pairings being altered at the last minute.
