WWE.com have confirmed that Bray Wyatt will face Ryback at this Sunday's Payback PPV. It was a match that has been expected for a few weeks after Wyatt attacked Ryback randomly on Raw on April 27. That led to another attack on Smackdown. Following the many promos by Wyatt, Ryback spoke up last week on Raw and then this past week he took the fight to Wyatt, which caused Wyatt to leave the ring and Ryback stood tall on Raw. The match should have been made official during Monday's Raw, but for whatever reason WWE announced it on their website today. Both performers have come a long way from when Wyatt was known as Husky Harris and Ryback was known as Skip Sheffield. They have reached a point in their careers where they have become known commodities in WWE. The crowd may boo Wyatt because he's a heel, but he's such an interesting performer that people always want to see what he might do next. Ryback has become one of the better babyfaces in WWE. He may not ascend to the point where he wins the WWE Title. However, he's improved in the last couple of years. Their match at Payback could be the start of a series of matches for them. With the Elimination Chamber show taking place on May 31 as well, they could have another match there since WWE will have to do their best to fill out a card with some current feuds. The next PPV after that is Money in the Bank in June. Perhaps they could both be in a MITB match with Wyatt in position to be the most likely winner just based on his current status in the company. As we noted yesterday, WWE has long term plans for Wyatt as a babyface. Now isn't the time to turn him, but if that's the long term plan then they can start planting the seeds now. Either man could win at Payback. It all depends on how many matches they have. Wyatt's probably going to win the feud because WWE will likely want him to feud with a guy like Roman Reigns or Randy Orton in the near future, so he needs some notable wins to get there. Here's the rest of the card: WWE Title: Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns US Title I Quit Match: John Cena vs. Rusev WWE Tag Team Titles 2/3 Falls: The New Day vs. Cesaro and Tyson Kidd Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler King Barrett vs. Neville Ryback vs. Bray Wyatt Kickoff Match: Damien Sandow and Curtis Axel vs. The Ascension There's also a divas match expected to be announced, but nothing official yet. It might be announced during this week's Smackdown broadcast. We'll have a Payback preview posted later in the week and full analysis after the show is over as well.
