Bret Hart Shoots On WWE's Leg Slap Ban
WWE legend Bret Hart weighs in on Vince McMahon's latest leg slap ban.
Bret Hart thinks WWE should've "outlawed" leg slaps in matches around 10 years ago.
The 'Hitman' recently conducted a virtual meet and greet with the Asylum Wrestling Store team on Facebook, and didn't shy away from Vince McMahon's latest decree. Bret and Vince haven't always seen eye-to-eye on pro wrestling over the years, but they're on the same page with this one.
Hart credited his brother Owen as one of the first wrestlers to really popularise leg slaps during kicks, at least in North America. However, Bret pointed out that his younger brother used the slapping sound sparingly, and only did it during spots that needed a little spice (like a spinning heel kick, for example).
Hart doesn't like that so many workers slap their legs when punching either - "it’s a different kind of sound and you’re making a slap sound for everything", he said.
The WWE icon wishes McMahon had put his foot down a decade or so earlier, because he thinks a ton of younger wrestlers have developed bad habits. One of the worst, to Bret, is the now-forbidden leg slap.
Several stars, including Drew McIntyre, still use the gimmick during matches. Again though, like Owen, Drew only slaps when it makes sense.
