Cain Velasquez Debuts For WWE On SmackDown FOX Season Premiere
The former UFC Heavyweight Champion clashed with Brock Lesnar last night.
Cain Velasquez made a sensational WWE debut during last night's SmackDown season premiere on FOX, attacking old UFC rival Brock Lesnar immediately after 'The Beast Incarnate's' nine-second WWE Championship win over Kofi Kingston.
Lesnar and Paul Heyman were celebrating in the ring when Rey Mysterio's music hit. Out came Rey, who, along with son Dominick, was obliterated by Brock on this week's Raw. He wasn't alone, though, and with Velasquez by his side, Mysterio hit the ring.
A brief staredown ensued before Velasquez and Lesnar leapt into action, with Cain taking Brock down before laying into him with some ground and pound. 'The Beast' then fled the scene, staring down the ramp as Velasquez and Rey stood tall, having ended SmackDown on a huge talking point.
Velasquez's name has barely been out of wrestling headlines this week. Rumours of WWE and AEW talks circulated a few days ago, with Dave Meltzer suggesting that Vince McMahon wanted Cain to debut alongside Mysterio after the Raw beatdown. This came to fruition last night, though ESPN's Marc Raimondi claims that Velasquez and WWE haven't yet come to terms on a deal.
Could we see a WWE-style rematch of the UFC 121 bludgeoning in which Cain put Brock's lights out? Let's hope so.
