Potshots were fired as Sasha Banks and Bayley became the first two WWE wrestlers to beat AEW's Chris Jericho in a head-to-head segment since the Wednesday Night Wars began back in October 2019.

It began with 'The Boss' tweeting the following, quoting a previous tweet showing their NXT bout with Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart outdid Jericho and Sammy Guevara vs. Best Friends 757,000 to 706,000 last week:-

It's unlikely that there's anything more to this than two wrestlers poking fun in character, of course, though neither AEW Dynamite nor WWE NXT has shone brightly, viewership-wise, during the ongoing Empty Arena Era. All wrestling shows have experienced declines and while AEW has regularly outdone NXT in overall viewers and most demographics since the global health crisis kicked in, both shows posted increases last week.

The most significant upcoming ratings battle goes down on 8 July. AEW will present the second part of their two-week Fyter Fest special that evening and WWE are counter-programming, announcing a Winner Takes All bout pitting NXT Champion Adam Cole against the victor of North American Champion Keith Lee vs. Finn Balor vs. Johnny Gargano, which goes down this week.
