Clarification On Oney Lorcan's WWE Non-Compete Clause
Details on when the former NXT Tag Team Champion can wrestle again after his WWE release.
The 18 wrestlers released by WWE last Thursday (4 November) will be able to sign and appear for other promotions from either 4 December 2021 or 2 February 2022, depending on whether or not they are bound to a 30 or 90-day non-compete clause.
NXT wrestlers are usually restricted by only 30 days, while main roster competitors must sit out for 90. It isn't always that straightforward, however, as Oney Lorcan (who was never directly promoted from NXT to Raw or SmackDown - at least in kayfabe) revealed last week that his runs for 90 days.
In an update, the former NXT Tag Team Champion has confirmed that his extended clause is a product of his time on 205 Live (h/t Fightful):-
“I’ve been getting a lot of questions about why I have a 90-day no-compete rather than a 30-day no-compete. When I wrestled for 205 Live, the show used to travel around SmackDown so when I got called to 205 Live, I re-signed a contract to a main roster contract. Rather than have a 30-day no-compete that’s in the NXT contract, my contract became a 90-day no-compete clause. I just wanted to clear that up.”
Lorcan had been with WWE for six years prior to his departure, having signed his first contract with the promotion in September 2015. The 35-year-old had been primarily assigned to NXT for the duration of his run.
