CM Punk Is Absolutely Messing With Everyone
CM Punk is at it again.
CM Punk has indirectly drawn a line of comparison between AEW's ongoing 'Devil' storyline and WCW's hated Black Scorpion angle.
The former AEW World Champion, who almost certainly knows exactly what he is doing, posted an image of the Black Scorpion captioned 'Who was behind the mask?' to his Instagram story over the weekend.
It would take a very naive individual to suggest that Punk doing this at a time when AEW is running its own mystery masked storyline on television was coincidental.
Commencing in August 1990, WCW's Black Scorpion plagued then-NWA World Heavyweight Champion Sting, cladding himself in a hooded robe and mask to conceal his identity. Widely regarded as one of the biggest flopped angles in wrestling history, the Black Scorpion was played by Ole Anderson, whose voice was altered, though the assailant was eventually unmasked as Ric Flair.
AEW has been running its Devil angle for the past few months, with MJF in Sting's spot. This storyline commenced with the Devil and his mask-clad crew attacking MJF's rival, Jay White, backstage. Bemusingly, White shook this off upon returning to television, effectively no-selling what had happened.
