CM Punk Returns To Comics With "Shang-Chi" One-Shot
Make Punk's Marvel!
As reported on Wednesday by SyfyWire, CM Punk will be making his return to Marvel Comics with November's release of a Master of Kung Fu one-shot starring Shang-Chi. Punk will write the comic with Dalibor Talajic (Foolkiller, Empire of the Dead) taking on art duties.
CM Punk's association with Marvel stretches back to 2012, when the then-WWE Champion penned the introduction for the collected edition of Avengers Vs. X-Men. After leaving WWE, he began balancing his MMA training with comic scripting, writing sections in 2015's Thor Annual #1 and Vertigo's Strange Sports Stories #3. Later that year, Punk got his highest-profile gig yet when he was tapped to co-write Drax alongside Cullen Bunn. The series lasted for 11 issues before being cancelled last September.
First appearing in 1973, Shang Chi was the star of The Hands of Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu from 1974 to 1983. Though first created to tie in to the highly offensive Fu Manchu mythos, the character was later divorced from that continuity. After appearing sporadically during the 1990s and 2000s, Shang-Chi gained more exposure in 2012 as a part of Jonathan Hickman's Marvel NOW! Avengers.
