CM Punk: WWE/UFC Merger "Brings Pro Wrestling Back To Its Roots"
WWE star CM Punk can only see good things ahead under the TKO Group banner.
CM Punk believes the merger of WWE and UFC under the TKO Group umbrella can only be a good thing for both companies. The injured-but-soon-to-return star gave his thoughts during a brief chat for TKO's social media, and he had some interesting things to say.
Punk added that "there are a lot of similarities" and "parallels" between pro wrestlers and pro fighters. He described the merger as "exciting", and is particularly keen to see the union "bring pro wrestling back to its roots". One need only scan UFC's product over the past 15 years or so to see those parallels Punk is talking about.
At times, MMA has done fundamental pro wrestling hype better than pro wrestling; especially when WWE was at its lowest ebb during the dwindling years of Vince McMahon's power.
Punk is expected back in the ring sooner rather than later. He's been recovering from torn triceps suffered during his first WWE match back at January's Royal Rumble. Since then, Punk has managed to keep on-screen beef going with both Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre.
A possible (and expected) date with destiny vs. McIntyre awaits at SummerSlam early next month.
