Luke Harper "would be great as part of AEW", according to All Elite Wrestling head honcho Cody.

The recently-released former Wyatt Family member has been a longstanding favourite amongst fans online despite gaining limited exposure during a challenging WWE run that formally reached its contractual conclusion last week

Speaking to TalkSport's Alex McCarthy, he said; "He would be great as part of AEW. He's a name that when you hear they've asked for their release, you definitely think about that and the next steps, for sure. I think he's going to flourish with what he does next, he's very special."

Harper (real name Jonathan Huber) found success on the independent circuit as Brodie Lee before signing and debuting with WWE via NXT in 2012. His main roster arrival alongside Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan occurred within a year, but the continued failure of the group to find true footholds on the show damaged the credibility initially forged with the audience.

Brief runs alongside Rowan in 2018 and 2019 as Bludgeon Brothers and...big weird guys respectively proved to be his last acts of significance with the organisation.

2019's remained a fertile marketplace for wrestlers - could Cody's encouraging tone manifest as a genuine open door offer? The new year should provide the answer.
