Cody Rhodes Calls Recent AEW Spot "Dumb"
This controversial AEW spot was "dumb", at least according to Cody Rhodes.
Cody Rhodes has called his flaming table spot from the 1 December 2021 episode of AEW Dynamite "maybe the dumbest thing I've ever done".
The current TNT Champion told Comicbook.com that the bump "wasn’t so much about topping myself" - instead, Cody just wanted to reflect the brutality of the 'Atlanta Street Fight' stipulation vs. Andrade El Idolo. He's not a fan of gimmick matches in wrestling that are "Basic Betty" rather than wild and dangerous.
So, he decided to reach for the dramatic fire trope and end up with a back that looked like chargrilled meat.
Rhodes believes it's important to leave fans with "lasting memories" when they see matches promoted as 'Street Fights'. Even so, he can see now that the flaming table bump was a bit much. Nobody can fault the guy for trying to give people more bang for their buck though.
This admission comes hot on the heels of another. Recently, Cody called his 2021 feud opposite Anthony Ogogo "tone deaf". He regrets so much from that rivalry, and doesn't think AEW covered itself in glory with the patriotic content.
