Cody Rhodes Confirmed For PWG's Battle Of Los Angeles
Cross one more off the list...
Cody Rhodes may have to wait until August 19 before he can wrestle outside of WWE, but the former Intercontinental Champion is already filling up his late summer schedule.
California-based independent promotion Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has announced on Twitter that they're the latest group for whom Rhodes has agreed to wrestle, and he'll be competing in their annual Battle of Los Angeles tournament:
The Battle of Los Angeles has been held every year since 2005 and is arguably the most prestigious tournament in U.S. independent wrestling. BOLA tournaments in years past have involved between eight and 24 participants, with the previous two years' events boasting three eight-man brackets and a three-way final match. Past winners of the tournament include Low Ki, Sami "El Generico" Zayn, Ricochet, and Zack Sabre Jr.
After receiving his requested WWE release on May 22, Rhodes tweeted a list of goals (mostly potential independent and international opponents) for his post-WWE career. BOLA is the third he's already lined up, following announced matches with Kurt Angle and "The Miracle" Mike Bennett for Northeast Wrestling. Additionally, Rhodes has also been announced as debuting for EVOLVE Wrestling on August 19.
The dates of the 2016 tournament haven't been announced yet, but the shows are typically held in late August or early September.
