Cody Rhodes To WWE Still Unclear Despite Rumors
Little developments this week, but many still expect Rhodes to debut at some point.
When Cody Rhodes and AEW parted ways more than a week ago, rumors flew at a rapid pace that the second-generation star could very quickly find his way back to WWE, even as soon as that week's Elimination Chamber premium live event.
Since then, the wrestling world has been on Cody Watch, but with very little substance to show for it.
Now, Fightful Select is reporting that word in WWE is very tentative, noting that those in the company are careful to say "if Cody Rhodes comes in" and that that they have not heard of any creative plans for him. The report indicates that it's been "eerily quiet" during this past week. Wrestlers in WWE expect Rhodes to rejoin the company, but they have no hard evidence that it's going to happen.
The report also notes that AEW is chugging along and things have quieted down about the Cody situation. The belief from one source is that Tony Khan and Rhodes are still on friendly terms, so they wouldn't expect potshots to be taken in either direction.
Interestingly, the only comment Fightful has gotten from the Rhodes camp came last week that he's a "stay-at-home dad now." Even a visit to Orlando recently was downplayed as being for a birthday dinner, and not to head to the Performance Center.
Of course, a lot of this is best guess. We could see Cody pop up at any given moment, or he really could be taking some downtime and not show up until the Raw after WrestleMania 38, when all the part-timers will have once again vanished and he can be a bigger focus of the company.
