Cody will defend his newly-won AEW TNT Championship every single week.
'The American Nightmare' made the announcement on last night's episode of Dynamite, calling it an "open challenge." His promo saw him state that he wants to be a hard-working champion, as graft is what brought him to the dance in the first place, and that is what the audience deserves after supporting him and AEW through the ongoing global health crisis.
Jungle Boy emerged as Cody's first challenger later in the evening, winning a number one contender's battle royal that boiled down to Wardlow, MJF, Orange Cassidy, and the Jurassic Express man. MJF and Wardlow were put out shortly after 'The Salt of the Earth' had accidentally blasted his heavy with the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Minutes later, Jungle Boy took the victory by headscissoring Cassidy out of the ring.
Crowned TNT Champion after closing the inaugural title tournament by beating Lance Archer at Double Or Nothing 2020, Cody is seemingly trying to establish AEW's secondary strap as the workrate belt. His weekly bouts should at least give fans hungry for in-ring action something exciting to look forward to every Wednesday.
