An emotional Colt Cabana returned to All Elite Wrestling on last night's Dynamite, wrestling Chris Jericho as the Ring Of Honor Champion's mystery opponent.

The bout was effectively set up last week, when Jericho, upset at his and Daniel Garcia's tag loss to Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli, promised to defend the ROH Title against a former champion. AEW then continued the mystery angle throughout the week, leading to Cabana's reveal.

Colt hit the ring to a great pop. Consumed by emotion as he entered his first Dynamite match since 24 November 2021, Cabana, who had vanished entirely from AEW television in recent months, entered a losing effort against Jericho.

Cabana's professional wrestling future had become extremely murky and political since CM Punk's August 2021 entry into AEW. The duo's history is deep and problematic, turning, seemingly, from best friends to mortal enemies following the financial fallout of the infamous Dr. Chris Amman trial. That Colt's disappearance from AEW coincided with Punk's re-emergence into wrestling sparked rumours that Punk was behind the move, though AEW founder and CEO Tony Khan has denied this.

With the dust finally settling from All Out 2022, Punk looks to be on his way out of the promotion. Brawling with The Elite after an incendiary press scrum appearance, where Cabana was amongst his targets, the 44-year-old and AEW are understood to be in negotiations over a potential contract buyout.
