Cult Favourite Set For AEW Monster Push?
Big things are in this AEW's future imminently. Expect a HUGE push.
Konosuke Takeshita is set to receive what has been described as a "top tier" push in AEW.
This is per Dave Meltzer, who reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that although Takeshita's current role has him losing to major AEW stars in great bouts, the company has "significant plans" for him. The Japanese star will be pushed to the top, with the ongoing angle featuring Don Callis scouting Takeshita during his matches expected to be the catalyst for this.
Takeshita got over considerably with AEW fans last summer, when he returned to the company for a successful excursion that saw him face the likes of Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Eddie Kingston. He returned to Japan to compete for home promotion DDT that September but was later announced as a full-time AEW signing, resuming with the Tony Khan-helmed group in November.
The 27-year-old recently returned to the US following another trip back to Japan. This weekend saw him compete in PWG's annual Battle Of Los Angeles events, where he made the finals, falling to IMPACT's Mike Bailey.
Takeshita is to face Bryan Danielson on this Wednesday's episode of AEW Dynamite.
