Fans will no doubt remember the infamously negative sound which met Mysterio upon entering the titular bout at number #30. However, this fan response clearly wasn't a reflection of their feelings towards the masked legend, their reaction had more to do with the fact that their favourite star, Daniel Bryan, hadn't been given a spot in the all important match.

Bryan has now shed some light on how he felt on the night of the surreal event:

"We were sitting backstage watching the monitor and I could feel the temperature of the audience. I was like, “ooh!” I didn’t know exactly what was gonna happen in the Royal Rumble or anything like that. And then when Rey came out and he got booed because he wasn’t me, I felt so bad because Rey is one of my heroes and he’s also one of the best wrestlers of all time, and one of those guys who still – despite having wrestled for as long as he has – still puts everything out there, constantly working hard and all of it. That’s the last person you should boo! So, really there was this weird sort of, “Yeah this feels good that people want me, but I feel so bad for Rey!"

Thankfully, Bryan would still find his way into the WrestleMania XXX main event, winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after getting the better of Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista across two matches on the night. Mysterio would also earn some redemption later down the line, entering the 2018 match as a surprise entrant to the sound of an arena full of over-the-moon audience members.

Will Bryan be able to win his first Rumble match in just over a week's time? Only time will tell...
