Once Edge won the men’s Royal Rumble match this past January, it seemed as if the Rated R Superstar was destined to lock up with Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37.

Even though the WWE Hall of Famer formally confirmed that, yes, he was utilising his Rumble win to cement a shot at the Head of the Table, that singles bout soon became a triple threat contest featuring Daniel Bryan. Certain fans felt that this match simply didn’t need the loveable D-Bry involved in it – and that’s something Bryan himself has now completely agreed with.

Speaking to BT Sport, the Yes! Man admitted that he actually tried to get out of the Night 2 main event of this year’s Showcase of the Immortals.

“Not to say I didn’t want to be a part of it, but I just thought it was such a strong main event, just the two of them. The weird thing is, WrestleMania 30 felt like it was gonna be Batista and Randy [Orton], right? It felt like with the way the crowd was reacting to Batista and Randy, it kind of needed me in there, right? This one didn’t feel like it needed me.”

Bryan explained how it was after the Elimination Chamber PPV, in the build to his Fastlane match with Roman Reigns, that he realised he was being moved into the Universal Championship picture for ‘Mania 37.

Going one further, the American Dragon believes that many people had the same thoughts as himself about him not being needed to be inserted into Edge vs. Reigns – just that people were too nice to say that, for fear of being labelled a jerk.
