Daniel Garcia Contract Latest: No New AEW Deal Yet, WWE Interested
Daniel Garcia's AEW future still hangs in the balance as WWE speculation continues.
Daniel Garcia has yet to re-sign with AEW ahead of his contract's reported expiry in October.
Fightful Select reports that Garcia hadn't agreed on an AEW extension as of last week, despite a "top name" in the company previously speculating that the 25-year-old had re-signed, believing Garcia was sticking around. Fightful had previously reported on his October expiration.
Garcia is a wrestler in demand, with WWE interested in acquiring him and AEW out to retain him. His future has been subjected to near-constant speculation since he was written off AEW television on Dynamite's 3 July 'Beach Break' special. MJF brutally attacked Garcia on the show, bloodying the vaunted prospect up after Daniel had wrestled Will Ospreay, triggering MJF's heel turn.
Garcia was considered among the re-building American independent scene's brightest young prospects upon signing with AEW in October 2021, with that reputation continuing into Tony Khan's promotion. To date, he has wrestled 136 matches under the ROH and AEW banners, working extensively alongside such card-topping names as Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson, and MJF.
Garcia's AEW presentation has been a frequent source of frustration for viewers, particularly during his time tethered to the Jericho Appreciation Society between March 2022 and late 2023.
As well as trying out for WWE in the past, Garcia has wrestled two matches for the promotion over the years: on the 205 Live brand as Danny Garcia in July 2018, and then as Dante Rios for NXT in January 2021.
