Darby Allin defeated MJF in just over 2 minutes to become the brand new AEW World Champion on the special 'Spring BreakThru' edition of Dynamite days after All Elite's Dynasty pay-per-view. There, Friedman had successfully defended the gold vs. Kenny Omega in a bout that ran close to 39 minutes.

Tony Khan went for the surprise element on Wednesday's flagship.

The story called for MJF to feign shock that he was even booked to wrestle Allin at all and kick off the night. The then-champ bitched and complained about how ill-prepared he was, so the bout was pushed back to the main event slot. Then, AEW had Allin crush Max with 4 Coffin Drops to take home the prize.

Various members of the AEW roster then spilled out of the locker room to celebrate with their new figurehead. Amongst them? Sting. The legend had made a rare cameo appearance before the match to show support for Darby, and he wanted to be there to toast his protege's success.

There's little doubt the Stinger's involvement added to the majesty of the moment.

MJF's second run as AEW World Champ ended at 109 days. During his reign, which began at World's End 2025 on 27 December last year, he successfully defended it against everyone from Brody King and Hangman Page to Bandido and Omega.

This is Darby's first run with the top title, but he has held the TNT belt twice and been tag champs with his mentor Sting in the past.
