Dean Malenko Quits Job As WWE Road Agent
The 58-year-old signs off following 8 years of service.
Dean Malenko has reportedly resigned from his position as a WWE road agent.
This is according to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, who claims to have been informed of the news by multiple sources.
The 58-year-old had worked behind the scenes with WWE for over eight years, having previously wrestled for the promotion between 2000 and 2001, during which he became Light Heavyweight Champion. Sporadic televised appearances would keep coming his way after retirement, though, with the latest being the 5 June 2018 episode of SmackDown, where he featured in an AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura contract signing.
Malenko's strengths are said to be agenting tag team matches, utilising shorter talent, and his vast technical wrestling knowledge. Thus, Barrasso earmarks All Elite Wrestling as a potential new employer for the former Radical.
There's no word on what sparked Malenko's WWE departure, or whether or not he even intends to remain in the wrestling business now that he has walked away. Him leaving continues a widescale backstage reshuffle that has seen Arn Anderson pushed out, 'Road Dogg' Brian James go onto hiatus, and a number of other major behind-the-scenes changes in 2019.
