After losing his WBC Heavyweight title to Tyson Fury on Saturday night, Deontay Wilder has announced that he will indeed be activating his rematch clause - setting up a third clash between the two.

Wilder was obliterated on the night by the Lineal Heavyweight Champion and this led to his trainer Mark Breland throwing in the towel to avoid any long lasting damage to his already beaten fighter.

Many fans had speculated that this decisive victory would open the door up for an all British Heavyweight title unification bout between Fury and Anthony Joshua in the near future.

However, Wilder has made the decision to activate his rematch clause and challenge Fury again in the summer.

Speaking to The Athletic, Wilder said, "The rematch is definitely going to happen. We're going to get it on. I want to get right back to it."

Wilder also felt that his heavy duty entrance gear was detrimental to his performance on the night and stated that "he didn't hurt me at all, but the simple fact is that my uniform was way too heavy for me."

As far as excuses go, we'll rank this one as flimsy at best. Regardless, it now looks as though Wilder/Fury III will be taking place before we get the chance to witness the battle of Britain.

Wilder also announced to the Associated Press that he understands Breland "was looking out for me and trying to do what he felt was right, but this is my life and my career and he has to accept my wishes," before going on to claim that "we’re going to change a lot of things in camp" - alluding to a backroom staff change-up for Wilder going forward.
