Did WWE Change Another Wrestler's Name On Last Night's NXT 2.0?
Another day, another name change in WWE...
24 hours removed from Austin Theory's rebranding as just "Theory", WWE changed another wrestler's name on last night's episode of NXT 2.0.
Suspicions first arose during the show's gauntlet match for the vacant NXT Tag Team Championships. Legado Del Fantasma contested the first fall with The Creed Brothers, during which Raul Mendoza was referred to exclusively as "Del Toro", not by his usual ring name. This persisted until he and partner Joaquin Wilde were eliminated when Brutus Creed scored the fall on Wilde.
Unlike Theory on Raw, WWE did not explicitly acknowledge the name change on air. This led to confusion amongst those who viewed the show.
But it's official now. Mendoza's ring name has been switched to "Cruz Del Toro" on his WWE.com profile.
This is the latest in a recent string of sudden WWE name changes, with Pretty Deadly's Lewis Howley and Sam Stoker rebranded Elton Prince and Kit Wilson after debuting on NXT 2.0 last week. The British duo ended up winning the gauntlet match to become Tag Team Champions in their first match on the brand.
Del Toro, 30, has been with WWE since debuting the 2016 Cruiserweight Classic tournament.
