"I don't get given anything. I get given crumbs, but I make it a steak."

Across the mass WWE releases of last Wednesday, the release of Drake Maverick stood out as being different to the rest.

What made Maverick’s WWE departure so unique, was that the ridiculously talented Englishman was quick to reveal how he was still going to be wrestling in three more matches before his time in WWE was over. Those matches, of course, will be a part of the tournament to crown an interim Cruiserweight Champion – and now Maverick has declared his intentions of winning said tournament and saving his job.

Speaking on this week’s episode of The Bump, the former (and future?) Rockstar Spud wasn’t shy about proclaiming how he has so often been expected to make chicken salad from chicken sh*t during his WWE career and beyond, and how now he’s “got to make this work” and that “this is my story now.”

Should there be a genuine chance of WWE having seller’s remorse and wanting Drake Maverick to stay with the company, here’s hoping they make the most of one of the most versatile players in the game.

If, as seems most likely, Drake’s time with WWE really is over once the cruiserweight tournament is done and dusted, he will surely be one of the very hottest of free agents on the market – and whoever ends up with Rockstar Spud on their roster will have a true larger-than-life bona fide star on their hands.
