9. Mean Gene Okerlund - Paul Giamatti

Without Gene Okerlund, Hulkamania would never have got as big as it did. Again, those words belong to Hulk Hogan himself and there's no greater testament to the legend's importance to that moment in wrestling history.

In terms of characterisation, Okerlund's role has to be as a foil to Hogan - a sometimes comic figure more than able to hold his own when verbally sparring with Hogan and other superstars but also willing to poke fun at himself. To a certain extent, a lot of the success of the casting would rely on the clash of whoever is cast opposite Hemsworth.

Step forward Paul Giamatti, a man capable of chameleon-like transformations but also a thoroughly bloody great actor - and a raconteur of some skill to boot - even more importantly.
