Former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre could be out of action until after WrestleMania, says PWInsider's Mike Johnson.

The Scot suffered a bicep injury during his unsuccessful title defence against Andrade Almas at NXT TakeOver: WarGames on November 18.

Johnson says sources inside the WWE have indicated McIntyre is set to be on the treatment table until April, with a role on the 'Mania weekend TakeOver show an outside possibility.

Despite his setback, the 32-year-old greeted news of his lay-off in positive spirits, writing on Twitter, "... the reality is, I always come back better", whilst vowing to reclaim his title.

With McIntyre out of the picture for the forseeable future, however, Almas will presumably now meet a new challenger at the next TakeOver event in January.

Candidates at the moment include Aleister Black, who scored a win over Velveteen Dream at WarGames, and perhaps Undisputed Era leader Adam Cole.

NXT will be in Philadelpia the night before the Royal Rumble, where one or two of its stars may pop up as surprise entrants.

McIntyre, it seems, won't be among them, with a main roster bow after next year's Superstar Shake-Up now a more likely scenario.
