Edge And WWE "Not Close" On Agreeing New Contract
Could the Rated-R Superstar soon be departing WWE?
With Edge's current WWE contract due to expire in a matter of weeks, the Rated-R Superstar and WWE are reportedly "not close" to agreeing a new deal for the 11-time World Champion.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio (via WrestlingNews.co), Dave Meltzer mentioned Edge and Drew McIntyre when talking about WWE's ongoing contract negotiations with LA Knight.
As Meltzer put it, new deals for those three aren't "dead", but "they're not close on money". The Wrestling Observer founder would also add how WWE has a salary scale of what certain talents in certain positions should earn, and while the company can afford "anything and anyone", there are some wrestlers who want more than what WWE perceives them as being worth.
What's most interesting about hearing how Edge isn't close to agreeing a WWE contract renewal, is his current deal is believed to be expiring at the end of this month. As such, that would render the WWE Hall of Famer a free agent, and given the natural expiry of his contract, he would be able to compete for any other promotion once this deal expires.
If Edge does indeed depart WWE, the real-life Adam Copeland would be technically able to appear at, say, AEW WrestleDream on Sunday 1 October...
