Eric Bischoff is certain that things would've gone differently for WCW had plans to split the roster into two distinct brands happened in 1998.
On his '83 Weeks' podcast, the former WCW head honcho told co-host Conrad Thompson that he purposely stocked the nWo stable so that it'd have enough numbers to sustain its own show when they pulled the trigger. Back in '98, Bischoff wanted to make Monday Nitro an exclusive nWo product; meanwhile, the WCW wing would've appeared on Thunder.
Of course, as they often did in WCW, plans went awry.
Bisch said that he woke up one day and suddenly realised that his big split wasn't going to happen. That left him with quite the situation - he'd already crammed as many bodies into the nWo as possible, and now they had no purpose.
Worse, most of them were lower-tier workers who barely fit anywhere else either.
Instead of slowly removing members though, WCW kept things as they were and hoped that the group's popularity would help them ride things out. That didn't happen. Instead, fans grew bored of the messy faction's bloated numbers and lost interest.
