PWInsider is reporting that Smackdown's Erick Rowan underwent surgery for a torn rotator cuff with Dr. Jeffrey Dugas in Birmingham, Alabama.

While there has been no official estimate regarding Rowan's recovery time, such an injury can typically be expected to put an athlete on the shelf for at least four months.

Rowan has been a loyal acolyte of Bray Wyatt's for most of his WWE career. He debuted in 2013 as part of The Wyatt Family with Luke Harper, and though Bray would eventually disband the unit, they came back together in 2015, adding Braun Strowman to the mix. Just before WrestleMania, Harper suffered a knee injury from which he is expected to return imminently.

Rowan and Wyatt were drafted to Smackdown in July's brand split while Strowman was sent to Raw, once again splitting up The Wyatt Family. Nevertheless, Rowan has continued to act as a henchman for "The Eater of Worlds," despite a less-than-successful track record and Wyatt's walking out on his disciple after Rowan suffered a loss to Dean Ambrose.

Rowan is the third WWE superstar currently suffering from a rotator cuff injury. Shelton Benjamin's planned comeback in July had to be postponed when it was discovered that he was in need of surgery, while Finn Balor experienced a serious tear during his SummerSlam match with Seth Rollins.
