6. Tian Sha

Members: Mei Ying, Xia Lee, Boa

Currently the origin and mystery around Tian Sha is holding intrigue - but at a distance. Suspension of disbelief and the supernatural is a fevered debate in professional wrestling. While wrestling fans have been burnt by opening gimmicks up to the uncanny, but this slow-burn introduction is paying off.

The group debuted with a whole mythology condensed into a vignette. It centred around the story of Mei Ying, an ancient princess who sold her soul to a dragon in return for the training needed to avenge her father’s patricidal slaying. The Mei of the present-day bears little resemblance to this princess. The masked figure has all the menace of an axe murder in pursuit of teen campers while sat still on a throne.

Xia Li and Boa were both recruited via letter and taken to a darkened warehouse to meet their new leader. It was genuinely shocking to see the dishevelled duo beginning for forgiveness from an unknown figure.

Tian Sha is a great vehicle for all three wrestlers to highlight themselves to the NXT faithful, and the supernatural gimmick certainly gives them plenty to work with.
