Fightful Select reports that "everybody expects AEW as the landing point" once Woods and Kingston are free to appear for other wrestling promotions following their unexpected WWE departures on 24 April.

The outlet states that among the dozen-plus sources consulted on the matter, there's a unanimous feeling that AEW should sign Kofi and Xavier. Typically, the outlet expects at least one dissenting voice regarding potential signings. Not here.

Per Fightful, "everyone we spoke to was on board." The New Day, who are universally respected amongst WWE and AEW wrestlers, have the support of several big names in AEW.

As Austin Creed and Kofi, Woods and Kingston will make their first post-WWE appearances as part of GalaxyCon on the weekend of 23 May. The duo are yet to announce any wrestling bookings. They may be bound to standard WWE 90-day non-compete clauses until late-July, depending on the circumstances of their WWE departures.

This week, AEW star Matt Jackson lifted the lid on pitching a New Day vs. The Elite dream match to WWE's Triple H in 2018. That bout didn't end up happening for myriad reasons. In 2026, it is entirely realistic, albeit without Big E, who remains with WWE as a broadcaster.

The New Day had been together as a trio from July 2014 until December 2024, when Woods and Kingston turned heel on E, jettisoning him from the group. Woods and Kingston remained a tag team until their WWE releases.
