WWE scrapped an attack angle featuring Braun Strowman and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes from last night's Raw, reports Dave Meltzer.

Mahomes, 28, appeared on the Kansas City, Missouri Raw just two-and-a-half months removed from leading the Chiefs organisation to its second consecutive Super Bowl. He was understandably over huge as a babyface, despite arriving with the heel United States Champion Logan Paul and streamer IShowSpeed, though he played the villain later in the night.

In a bizarre move, given Mahomes' popularity in KC, Mahomes handed Paul his three Super Bowl rings as part of an in-ring segment later in the show. Paul swung at Jey Uso, accidentally striking JD McDonagh in the process, though he eventually got hold of Jey and beat him down with the rings.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer stated that Mahomes' illogical heel role was a PRIME Energy directive, not a WWE directive. Mahomes was on the show due to his existing relationship with PRIME. As such, the Logan Paul-helmed brand wanted the Super Bowl MVP to work with the United States Champion in an angle, hence him playing heel in what should be his ultimate babyface city.

Further confusing matters is a scrapped angle involving the returning Braun Strowman. Appearing for WWE for the first time in over a year, Strowman saved Uso from Paul and Finn Balor after Logan's ring-assisted attack. Braun then teased going after Mahomes, before leaving with Jey.

Per Meltzer, Strowman was originally going to attack Mahomes - which didn't happen. As there was no other way out of the segment, Jey pulled Strowman away from the action.

Braun striking Mahomes would have instantly made him a heel on the night, despite Mahomes' own heel role in a city where he plies his trade as the ultimate babyface. Strowman, himself, returned as a babyface.

Try making sense of that.
