Former AEW World Champion Removed From Active Roster (WWE News)

It looks like that's a wrap on this wrestler's active career in AEW and in general.

Bryan Danielson has been removed from AEW's active roster page on the company's official website. He's now a permanent part of All Elite's broadcast/commentary team instead. This is a role that Danielson has enjoyed over the past couple of years, but some fans remained hopeful that he'd push back against various injuries and retirement to work some matches again.

Now, it looks like pulling on a pair of boots in firmly in Bryan's past.

He hasn't wrestled a full/proper match since dropping the AEW World Title to Jon Moxley at WrestleDream in October 2024. Danielson did work an 8-second dark bout vs. Max Caster in June 2025, but that was played for laughs more than anything and wasn't a serious showdown he could sink his teeth into.

It's interesting that AEW and Tony Khan didn't make this change straight away. There's a chance everyone was hedging their bets to see if Bryan could go again (or wanted to), but it appears he's now at peace with in-ring retirement.

On commentary, Danielson adds valuable perspective and insight. He's also remarkably blunt, and will call out silliness/logic gaps whenever he sees them. That's something to keep an eye on, because it's different to the roles others like Excalibur or Tony Schiavone fill.

Bryan isn't a heel behind the desk, but he doesn't sugar coat criticism either.

Obviously, he's a huge loss to AEW between the ropes. The former WWE hero joined All Elite in 2021 and never looked back, but now his in-ring journey is finally over.
