Last night saw Serena Deeb become the latest ex-WWE wrestler to debut on AEW Dynamite, showing up to face NWA Women's Champion Thunder Rosa in a losing effort.

It was ostensibly a warm-up match for Rosa, who faces AEW Women's World Champion Hikaru Shida at All Out this weekend, but both entered strong performances, resulting in one of the cleanest, crispest bouts AEW's oft-criticised division has ever put on. Rosa ended up putting Deeb away with her Thunder Driver in under 10 minutes.

Deeb, 34, is currently a free agent after being cut from her coaching position as part of WWE's mass cuts on 15 April. She had returned to the promotion via the 2017 Mae Young Classic tournament and started serving in her backstage role from February 2018.

Prior to that, Serena was a main roster wrestler as a shorn-headed member of CM Punk's Straight Edge Society. WWE let her go for failing to "live out" said straight edge persona in public in August 2010.

Boasting extensive experience on the independent circuit and with 15 years between the ropes under her belt, Deeb would be a smart full-time pickup for AEW. There's currently no word on whether or not her appearance was a one-off.
