Gable Steveson Postponing WWE Run? College Wrestling Return Considered
WWE Raw draft pick Gable Steveson's WWE run could be pushed back by another year.
Gable Steveson is reportedly considering returning to college wrestling with the University of Minnesota for its upcoming 2022-23 season, meaning his long-awaited WWE run would need to be postponed by another year.
Per Pioneer Press, Steveson is "exploring the possibility" of a collegiate comeback as he enters his final year of eligibility with the NCAA. This is despite the 21-year-old seemingly retiring from college wrestling in March, having left his shoes on the mat following his latest national championship win.
University of Minnesota coach Brandon Eggum commented:-
“I know he would like to wrestle, and he loves competing. Really, it comes down to making that work.”
Steveson signed for WWE in September 2021, having risen to fame after taking the gold medal for men's freestyle wrestling in the 125 kg division at the 2020 Olympic Games. In joining the pro wrestling market leaders, he became the first athlete to ink a name, image, and likeness deal with WWE, doing so as a precursor to the 'Next In Line' college recruitment program.
May 2022 had originally been pinpointed for Steveson's WWE Performance Center start date. Now, fans may need to wait another year for more from the 21-year-old, who was assigned to Raw as part of last year's WWE Draft.
