Goldberg has been unveiled as the marquee name to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame at this year's ceremony in New Orleans.

The 51-year-old will lead the Class of 2018 on April 6, almost one year to the day of his last WWE appearance. On that occasion, he was beaten by Brock Lesnar in one of WrestleMania 33's preeminent matches, capping off a surprise, late-career run in the squared circle.

Prior to November 2016, Goldberg had been on a decade-long wrestling sabbatical after a sub-par 12-month run on Monday Night Raw between 2003 and 2004. Resulting hostilities between the Oklahoma-born star and Vince McMahon initially appeared to preclude any hope of a future return.

But the ex-football star was eventually persuaded to put personal animosity to one side, a decision made - in his own words - in order to "create memories" for his son, who could be seen in the front-row during his matches.

Goldberg's most fruitful run came in WCW, where became one of the chief protagonists of the Monday Night Wars after graduating from the Power Plant training centre in 1996. A US and World Heavyweight Champion, he went a purported 173 matches undefeated at the height of his fame.
