Goldberg could be getting ready to return to WWE sometime between Royal Rumble 2021 and WrestleMania 37.

This is according to a new report from Inside The Ropes, whose sources believe that the former WCW Champion was featured in the ThunderDome crowd for last week's SmackDown season premiere not only to provide a slight ratings boost, but also "put some wheels in motion" for the build to 'The Showcase of the Immortals.'

"Vince McMahon couldn't care less what anyone thinks about him using Goldberg," said one of ITR's sources, with the WWE Chairman still viewing the veteran as a potential drawing card.

Now 53 years old, Goldberg last wrestled at WrestleMania 36, where Braun Strowman squashed him to become Universal Champion. This followed on from Goldberg taking the strap in a controversial flattening of 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt at Super ShowDown 2020, a move met with widespread anger and frustration from the fanbase, as Wyatt was still a huge favourite at the time.

Goldberg's WWE appearances have divided opinion ever since he first returned in the build to Survivor Series 2016, where he faced Brock Lesnar. He was originally supposed to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36.
