Bill Goldberg is salty about the way WWE handled his retirement speech last year.
Bill Goldberg is still salty about the way WWE handled his retirement speech following a final match vs. Gunther on Saturday Night's Main Event last year. The ex-WCW phenomenon put the career-killing Austrian over in his last bout on 12 July 2025, then grabbed the mic to bring the curtain down on his entire career.
That's when cameras cut on the scene early, which was likely an NBC call more than something on WWE's side. Even so, Goldberg has taken it personally. During a recent fan signing, he agreed with TikTok's Pop The Chain that Triple H was responsible. When the fan called Hunter a "jackass", Bill chimed in to say: "100%".
He'd already pointed to "the disrespect" that WWE showed him by cutting his speech short on a night that meant so much to his legacy. However, Goldberg has spoken positively about the actual match itself, and he was left impressed by Gunther after working with him inside the ring.
Everything afterwards? Not so much.
WWE did upload Bill's full speech online to their YouTube channel later, but he still took the cut off as one last slap in the face on his way out the door. He believes it was "probably" Trips who was behind the truncated promo as a means to mess with him for the sake of it.
After retiring Bill, Gunther went on to end the active careers of both John Cena and AJ Styles. It's been quite the run for the 'Ring General'. Goldberg respects him, but doesn't like the way his retirement was handled post-match.
