Goldberg Wanted A WCW Legend To End His Undefeated Streak Early
Big Bill reveals how he once nearly hijacked his own remarkable run.
Bill Goldberg has revealed how he once offered up his legendary WCW undefeated streak to a career midcarder during the height of its success.
Tag team wrestling icon Bobby Eaton was extremely influential in 'Da Man's early days, and a green Goldberg admitted how he'd wanted to put the Midnight Express man over when the company worked his hometown midway through the successful Streak.
Speaking to Stone Cold Steve Austin in his Broken Skull Session interview, the former WCW and Universal Champion said; "We’re still in the middle of my streak and I still don’t know s–t from Shinola, right? And we’re in his home-frickin’-town, right? And [Bobby Eaton's] putting me over that night and I am begging Arn Anderson to let me put him over. Whether it’s a show or not, I wanted him to be the man that night and it meant everything to me. And at the beginning I didn’t know the brevity of the streak, but, frick, as a man, I wanted to do that. I don’t want to say, ‘I’m a great guy,’ but I want people to understand that that’s me. That’s my thought process. In that night, in that moment, it meant more for me to make him the guy than anything including this streak thing that they were talking about...I wanted him to pin me. It would have ruined everything, but I didn’t know. I loved him and it was the way I could pay him back. But I didn’t know much about the business at that point...looking back, it’s the most ridiculous thing in the world, but it just shows my character."
