Goldberg Wanted THIS Wrestler To Retire Him

It's too late now, but Goldberg admits he wanted this ex-WWE and AEW star to retire him.

Bill Goldberg wanted to wrestle Sting in his retirement match, but then the Stinger's own retirement tour plans in AEW ramped up and his old WCW alumni realised he had to take a back seat. According to Goldberg, he had "no business being anywhere near that".

"That" being Sting's last hurrah in All Elite Wrestling.

Goldberg told Busted Open Radio that he identified Sting as the ideal rival for his final match years ago. Despite "trying to shuffle it" so that could happen, Bill watched on as his pal teamed with Darby Allin vs. The Young Bucks at AEW's Revolution pay-per-view this past March.

The Stinger has formally retired himself, so there's next-to-no chance he'd break that just to wrestle a one-off vs. Goldberg. Bill knows that, which is why he currently has "no idea" who'd be a suitable foe. Goldberg hadn't given that much thought, because he just assumed the match vs. Sting would eventually happen somewhere.

Bill's last match to date was a loss to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022. He's been rumoured for a stint in AEW ever since, but also rubbished the thought of that during follow-up interviews.

It'd be interesting to find out exactly where he thought the Sting match could take place then.
