The main event of Sunday's Fastlane Pay-Per-View saw Goldberg, true to his word, defeat Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship. Now, the former WCW superstar will defend the title against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33.

After defeating Lesnar in 1:26 at the Survivor Series, Goldberg entered the Royal Rumble match with the intent of winning and capturing the Universal Championship. In the Rumble, he eliminated Lesnar with relative ease, but The Undertaker then threw Goldberg out of the ring to seemingly put an end to his title hopes.

Soon afterwards, though, Goldberg challenged Kevin Owens to a match for the title at Fastlane, which Chris Jericho accepted on Owens's behalf. The champion and challenger spent the next few weeks guaranteeing victory, though Owens took a break to turn on Jericho and hurt his former friend.

When the main event of Fastlane came, Owens tried to play mind games with Goldberg - he kept rolling out of the ring before the referee could start the match, then re-entering briefly to toy with his opponent. When Owens finally called to start the bout, Jericho's entrance theme hit the P.A., and Owens was distracted by the appearance of his former partner. Goldberg took advantage of the opportunity to hit the Spear and Jackhammer, pinning Owens to win the belt in just 15 seconds of match time.
