How AEW's Adam 'Hangman' Page Got His Ring Name
Adam Page became a literal Hangman back in 2016...
'Hangman' Adam Page enjoyed the biggest night of his wrestling career this past Saturday (13 November), defeating Kenny Omega to cap a two-year character arc and become AEW World Champion at Full Gear 2021.
In the aftermath of this, current IMPACT Wrestling and former Ring Of Honor star Chris Sabin hit Twitter to revisit the original of Page's 'Hangman' monicker, which was born on a particularly grim night in Detroit for Sabin, who tweeted the following:-
Adam Page got the “Hangman” nickname after hanging me by my neck with a noose in front of my friends and family at an ROH show in Detroit.
This refers to an angle that saw Page join Bullet Club at a set of ROH television tapings back in May 2016. Page used a noose to suspend Sabin from ringside and eventually established this as part of his gimmick, regularly using the rope as he crossed over into NJPW, though this aspect of his character was eventually phased out as his level of prominence increased in both promotions.
Hangman had wrestled simply as Adam Page prior to that. Today, he retains 'Hangman' as part of his ring name - only without the literal hanging.
Probably for the best, given he's now a national television star.
