The New World Order were one of the most successful stables in the history of wrestling...in 1996, that is. Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall's faction ran roughshod over WCW and it made for compelling television, helping WCW beat the WWE in the Monday Night Wars (for 84 consecutive weeks, in case you haven't heard). The nWo died a pretty miserable death in WCW with the concept being further and further diluted as the likes of Virgil and Horace Hogan joined their ranks. Still, it had worked once before and, in Vince McMahon's mind at least, it would no doubt work again, which is why he brought the group back from the dead in 2002. Fans were initially excited about the return of the group but the nostalgia didn't really last when a completely neutered and decidedly uncool, suck-up nWo wondered into the company at the 2002 No Way Out PPV. Backstage, power players Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker and Triple H were worried about how the group might play politics and cause dissension in the harmonious WWE locker room. Still, the nWo angle went on...and on...and on, with members leaving, new members being added and other various twists and turns both in the ring and backstage. The angle is generally considered a major disappointment to fans as well as industry insiders.
