The bad news was provided by Tony Khan himself, who tweeted that Briscoe would unfortunately miss his title match against current ROH World Heavyweight Champion Claudio Castagnoli scheduled for the pay-per-view event on July 21st.

Fightful later added that it "is a serious knee injury that will likely require surgery." Briscoe last wrestled for ROH on June 29th, defeating J.D. Drake and Tony Nese in a three-way match.

As noted, with Claudio set to be a huge part of Wednesday's Blood & Guts match on AEW Dynamite, the status of the ROH Championship match remains up in the air for now. Castagnoli defeated sentimental favourite Eddie Kingston at Supercard Of Honor over WrestleMania weekend. Briscoe also lost that night, falling to ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe.
