The Rock has indicated that he won't have time to get into main event wrestling shape for a match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.

That's according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, with it being said that the "deadline for Mania plans is coming." Despite reportedly suggesting an appearance at that this year's Show of Shows could be off the table, though, it was also noted how Rocky kept the door open for something in the future.

Now, with this being the barmy world of wrestling, there's every chance this could simply be WWE and Rocky's way of throwing fans off the scent of an eventual Royal Rumble return en-route to taking on his Tribal Chief cousin on The Grandest Stage, as noted by Dave.

And while Meltzer wasn't 100% sure that Dwayne Johnson had officially turned down the opportunity to make history alongside Reigns, the WON man would go on to admit that "the only indication is that it was considered less likely than a few months ago."

With the former WWE Champion having the no-doubt stressful launch of the XFL on his schedule in the next month or so, finding time to get into the proper in-ring shape would likely be tough - even for a human as consistently shredded as The Great One.

Could this all just be a way to keep fans guessing heading into the upcoming Royal Rumble? Or does The Rock genuinely feel that he just doesn't have the time to get his body to the place he needs it to be for such an epic bout?

All will likely be revealed in the next few weeks...
