Iconic Ex-WWE Tag-Team Say They "Didn't Need" Titles
This legendary WWE tag-team claim having titles would've been unnecessary.
Not every tag-team needs to become the champs.
That's how The Bushwhackers looked at things during their WWE pomp back in the late-80s/early-90s anyway. Both Luke and Butch told Wrestling Inc that they had a different role in the company - the iconic pair then agreed that winning the Tag-Team Titles would've been unnecessary.
Luke did say that the duo were originally going to bag the belts from The Brain Busters back in 1989. Sadly, an injury he suffered during a jobber match on TV changed everything. Luke suffered cracked vertebrae in his neck and hairline fractures to his skull when a "battering ram" spot went wrong.
That forced the WWF to alter their title plans.
Looking back, The Bushwhackers are weirdly glad that they weren't given a run with the straps. Butch noted that Vince McMahon regularly positioned them as house show headliners so they'd send fans home happy; that, to him, was a more flattering role than any short reign with the tag titles would've been.
Demolition ended up winning the belts from Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard instead.
