Impact Eyes NJPW Partnership
Could Okada be back in the Impact Zone?
Impact Wrestling is keen on striking a new partnership with NJPW, according to PWInsider's Mike Johnson.
The two promotions shared a working relationship during the early 2010s, which saw current IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada head Stateside on a temporary basis.
And it has now been reported that officials from Impact have approached their Japanese counterparts in the hopes of reviving the deal.
Leading figure Scott D'Amore was even said to have personally apologised to Okada for his perceived mistreatment - namely, being made to play Samoa Joe's Green Lantern-obsessed "lackey" - during his stint with TNA between 2010 and 2011.
The interest at this time, however, is apparently not reciprocal, with New Japan favouring its current partnership with Ring of Honor over a potential one with Impact.
Despite that, Johnson writes that Don Callis, the English-language commentator for NJPW, could still be heading to Impact at the beginning of next year, if not the end of this one.
The Canadian is said to be waiting for a firm contract offer before he commits to a new role, however his current employers are already eyeing up potential - as yet unnamed - replacements.
